10 Things You Need to Know about Defiance

Defiance Release Date

1. Most of the technology in Defiance is centered around Arktech, which is a name for alien chunks of metal that have been enhanced. Arktech is used to create powerful weapons, armor and Environmental Guardian Online implants, also known as EGO. EGO implants are what allows characters in Defiance to have special abilities.

2. As a player in Defiance, you are known as an Ark Hunter, a soldier in midst of a war who is searching for Arktech. The characters in SyFy’s television series will aid you in your adventures, including Karl Von Bach, who heads the starting Ark Hunter mission.

3. Players will be able to use their EGO system to perform super-human feats and put up defensive systems. Different EGO powers have different uses. Blur, for example, increases movement speed and the capacity to dodge and mitigate damage. Overcharge allows players to supercharge their weapons, cause extra damage and instantly reload.

4. Dynamic events are going to be a large part of the game. Dynamic events are unpredictable occurrences in the game world that can happen anywhere and encourage players to band together to take out enemies in order to win the spoils of war– rare and powerful Arktech. More information can be read here

5. There are two playable races in Defiance: Human and Irathient. The Irathient race is one of seven Votan races, which is another name for the larger classification of alien races that are found beyond Earth. Many of the NPCs and television characters in Defiance will belong to the different Votan races.

6. There are no classes in Defiance. Instead, players are able to customize their playstyles based on their EGO powers and what technology and weapons they have available. Armor modifications, crafted weapons and portable defense screens are also customizable.

7. While Defiance is a shooter MMO, players will still gain experience and levels which is the same as in the Heroes of the Storm as seen in http://www.heroesofthestormbuildguide.com. Gaining levels will allow players to learn more powerful EGO powers and equip better technology and weapons.

8. Every player in Defiance will be able to summon a personal vehicle to ride. Most vehicles are similar to ATVs. There will also be group vehicles.

9. Defiance is available for PS3, XBOX 360 and PC. On the PC, players will use WASD controls similar to most MMORPGs.

10. Defiance will launch April 2, 2013 and is now available for pre-order. Pre-orderers will gain early access to the game. The television show will begin airing on April 15th. Right now the game is accepting closed beta applicants.

My Thoughts on Defiance

When I heard the news Defiance was going to have a TV counterpart, my eyebrows were raised. This is the first time anything like this has been done; an mmo that has a TV with the same name. I think it’s a pretty cool concept linking the two together. However, with the hype that’s been spread by the game, it comes down to gameplay that matters.

I expect flying ATVs in the game.

Defiance will not be defined by any classes but players will have the option of choosing their ‘Origin’. An Origin is similar to a starting point; players will not be limited to what abilities, outfits and weapons they can access to in the game. In a sense, players will be able to customize their ‘deck’ and play freely without restrictions. Physical appearances will be highly customizable as tattoos, skin color, hair and clothing will be completely up to players. How do you want to represent in the game and stand out unique is the name of the game.

Now comes the fun part; gameplay. Defiance is known to be a 3rd person action/shooter game which will be heavily focused on PvP and the story. The game will be revolving around the player’s actions and decisions; the player’s decisions will allow the story to progress in a good or bad way.

Since the main objective of Defiance game news is to participate in Arkfalls, advanced alien technologies which fall from the sky, players can either cooperate or compete with one another. Once obtained, players can use these technologies to upgrade their weapons. Also, there’s a possibility that these objects can be sold or can be quest items which you need to bring back to your quest giver.

Lastly, the TV show. Even if the TV show has concluded a season, the game will continue on. How it will continue on is beyond anybody’s guess but my guess is that the developers at Trion will add in expansion packs to the game.

The game will be available for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 consoles on April 2nd. There’s been a lot of speculation about if this tactic, combining TV series with the game will succeed. But if it’s not attempted then we’ll never know, right? I think it’ll be an awesome combo. I’m looking forward to more news released by Trion Worlds for their beta events or news relating to the game!

Introduction to Defiance

Syfy and Trion Worlds have partnered to revolutionize the integration of traditional storytelling on television and massively multiplayer online gaming with the introduction of Defiance. Defiance leads off with a tentative alliance between humans and several factions of aliens set in a post-apocalyptic earth. Ark Hunters will be challenged with missions to recover alien technology and convert it for human use. Interestingly the TV series and the game are not dependant upon each other, meaning you can just watch the show or just play the game — however if you do both it will enrich your emersion in the world of Defiance.

The Syfy television show will focus on a refugee camp located in St. Louis while online players can participate in Trion’s first-person shooter following events in San Francisco. The narrative will overlap both storylines as it develops. The beta version of the game was released in January but the television series is not due out until April. Von Bach Industries is responsible for developing the Environmental Guardian Online or ‘EGO’. EGO is an implant with a symbiotic relationship providing the host with additional powers and acting as your own personal guide in the Defiance universe.
